THINGS TO DO – WITH A TENNIS THEME!

TV

Well, really, the only thing we’ll be concentrating on are the matches! And then rounding them up with a daily dose of Today at Wimbledon, on every day for an hour at 8.00pm on BBC Two.

FILM

To get yourself in the mood, why not re-watch some tennis-themed classics?

Match Point is Woody Allen’s take on the British upper classes, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as a social-climbing tennis coach.

Wimbledon is the rom-com starring Paul Bettany and Kirsten Dunst, as two tennis players whose careers are at very different levels during the tournament. That’s not to say love can’t happen!

Confetti boasts an all-star British cast (Martin Freeman (The Office), Jessica Hynes (2012) and Olivia Colman (Peep Show) to name a few) where three couples battle it out to win most original wedding of the year. Stephen Mangan (Episodes) is  hilariously obsessed about his Tennis Wedding.

Really get into the spirit and read these on the train/bus to work…

Open: An Autobiography by Andre Agassi (£8.99, HarperCollins)
Heralded as ‘the best tennis autobiography ever’ this brilliant book is about one of our favourite players. Read this and you’ll learn not just about the man, but the sport he’s so passionately dedicated his whole life to.

Rafa: My Story by Rafael Nadal and John Carlin (£9.58, Hyperion)
Out in paperback in June, this honest and inspiring memoir gives an insight into what makes a champion.

Venus and Serena Williams: A Biography by Jacqueline Edmondson (£16.95, Greenwood Biographies)
We can’t think of any female players who grab our attention more. Their rumoured match-fixing, their on-court fashion, their serious drive. This is a great book for fans, and those who just want to know a bit more about the super-talented sisters.
