THE BEST OF THIS WEEK

Time to treat the man in your life, so we’ve picked the best entertainment that’ll you’ll both enjoy – plus he can put his feet up with our book choice…

Film

Red Lights (15)

This is a thriller everyone’s talking about, so you’ve both got to see it. Starring Robert De Niro (great for him), Cillian Murphy (28 Days Later, Girl with a Pearl Earring – great for you!) and the brilliant Sigourney Weaver, who plays a psychologist investigating a world-renowned psychic who’s suddenly resurfaced years after his toughest critic mysteriously dies. Chilling, gripping – a great popcorn-sharer!

Book

Red Star Burning by Brian Freemantle (£17.26, Thomas Dunne Books)

MI5’s best field agent Charlie is keeping a secret – he’s married to a colonel of Russian intelligence. If found out, she could end up in front of the firing squad, him in jail for life and their daughter in an orphanage. Smart and fast-paced, he’ll love this.

TV

The Secret History of Our Streets: Caledonian Road Wednesday 20 June, 9pm, BBC2

This is an excellent third part to what’s proving to be a brilliant series. Charles Booth’s 1886 Survey of London ranked each London street according to the class of its residents. 126 years later we return to Caledonian Road in Islington to see how much it’s changed. If you haven’t seen the first two, catch up on iPlayer. We want to see the rest of the country to receive the same treatment now!
